What is in the atlas
unions across upazilas, districts and divisions. indicators come from three BBS tables: households and population, literacy and technology, and SDG indicators.

How the data was collected
- The BBS PDF was downloaded and checksummed.
- Tables were parsed with
pdfplumber, without OCR, page by page.
- Rows were reconciled against the U02 union roster, names canonicalised, and duplicate or missing rows checked.
- Each value was linked back to its source page; every profile exposes those page links.
How boundaries were joined
Union polygons come from BBS administrative boundaries distributed through the bangladesh R package (MIT). Census rows were matched hierarchically by division, district and upazila, then by fuzzy union name. of unions matched (). unions have census data but no boundary shape; they remain searchable, listed and downloadable.
The map also contains municipal or ward polygons that have no census union row. They are drawn with a hatch and are not counted as unions.
Validation
- 4,584 union rows in each of U01, U02 and U03; 0 duplicate keys.
- 495/495 upazila totals and 64/64 district totals reconcile.
- Male + female = total; percentages fall within 0–100; no missing merged values.
- Household definitions differ between tables: U02
hh_total includes floating households; U01 hh_total_excl_floating does not.
Limits
- 284 unions lack a boundary shape and are not drawn on the map.
- Boundary labels sometimes differ from census names; the census name is shown, with the boundary label noted.
- Values are reproduced as published; there is no modelling or imputation.
- Percentages are not causal estimates and may use different denominators by table.
